The Kansas Jayhawks rallied from a 16 point deficit, the largest comeback win in a NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship game, to defeat the North Carolina Tar Heels 72-69 before 69,423 fans April 4, 2022 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. This represents Kansas’ fourth NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship in their storied basketball history and the second under Head Coach, Bill Self. The Jayhawks’ Ochai Agbaji was named the game’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). The 6-foot, 5-inch shooting guard scored 14 points and had three rebounds and one assist. North Carolina, under the direction of first year Head Coach, Hubert Davis, was led by Armando Bacot and R. J. Davis, each of whom scored 15 points. In the history of the NCAA Tournament, no team had rallied from a sixteen point deficit. Self said in his post game comments, “I think the way we [Kansas] won made it even more special.” Kansas finished with a record of 34-6 for the season. North Carolina finished with a record of 29-10.
